Pastry puff recipes

I think I am officially making Sunday the day that I post some kind of recipe whether it be something I baked or maybe even a healthy dinner recipe. Today I am making two pastry puff recipes. Usually I would make the pastry puff myself, but seeing as it takes a good two days to make quality pastry, I bought some instead. (not that I am some kind of pastry expert, but that's what I read on food network's website, so I'm going with that).  The first one is a dessert recipe and the second is a yummy appetizer.

 Chocolate pecan pastry strudel:

1 egg

 1 tbsp of water
4 ounces of semi sweet chocolate
 1 tbsp of butter
 1 sheet of pastry puff
 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
 confectioners sugar

preheat oven to 375. Beat the egg and water in a bowl

place the chocolate, butter and milk in a sauce pan and heat on low. stirring until melted and smooth.

unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. roll the sheet into a 16x12 rectangle. Spread the chocolate mixture on the pastry within 1 inch of edges. Sprinkle with pecans. Roll like a jelly roll. Place seam side down on baking sheet. Fold ends under to seal. Brush with egg mixture.

Bake for 35 min or until it is golden brown. Let cool on baking sheet for 30 min. sprinkle with confectioners sugar and some chopped strawberries (optional).

 Bacon jalapeno cheese rolls (yum):

1 egg
1 tbsp of water
1 sheet of pastry puff
1 1/4 cup of cheddar and monterey jack cheese blend
4 cloves of roasted garlic, mashed
5 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
1small jalapeno, seeded and minced

Heat oven to 400. Beat the egg and water together in a bowl (if you made the previous recipe use what's leftover from that).

Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. roll out into a 16x12 rectangle.

Mix together the cheese, jalapeno, garlic, and bacon in a bowl. Spread mixture onto pastry sheet. Roll into a jelly roll. Fold ends under to seal.  Brush with egg mixture.

Bake for 30 min until pastry is golden brown.

let cool for ten minutes and cut into circles. Put back into oven for 10 minutes, until middle is flaky.

Let cool for 20 min

Happy Baking!
