The burlap saga continues

So you remember my burlap curtains here and a few days ago my burlap pillow here, well today I decided to make yet another pillow in burlap. Hopefully you're more like "YES!" rather than "really....Again?" Why not? They are pretty easy to make and I had enough fabric left over for one more pillow. So here is what I did. First I made a pillow form like I did here. Then I cut two square pieces of fabric slightly larger than the pillow form.

Next thing I did was do a zig-zag stitch on the edges of both pieces (stops it from fraying, because burlap frays like crazy!)
Then sew two pieces together. Make sure to only do three sides! Then turn it inside out and insert pillow form:

Now fold the bottom in and stitch it close:

Now for some decorative flair! I took two strips of burlap (didn't do the zig-zag stitch on the edges, but definitely would if I were to do it again). I then ruffled the strips. Do this by doing a straight stitch down one of the edges at a higher length ( I put mine at 5). Then pull the top stitch to ruffle the fabric:
Now cut the frayed edges and circle the fabric to make a flower:
Now repeat and hand sew both flowers on the pillow. The result:

Now my first burlap pillow has a friend. I love it!

I recovered a footstool last fall in burlap and I love it. It is so sturdy and versatile. I love the lighter burlap that you used here. Thanks for stopping by today. Your anthro take on the apron was lovely. Smiles, Renee

I have been playing with burlap, too, but I have one little issue: that odd smell! Have you figured out a way to make burlap smell nice?
I have laundered mine with detergent and Downy twice, and I have used Fabreze, too, but it still has that funky smell.
I'm gonna try the cute flowers! Thanks for the idea :0)

@ Faith, I haven't figured out a way to make it smell better. I haven't tried though! I guess the smell just doesn't bother me :)
