Velcro Strap Dress Tutorial

I made my first dress for Emma and it was my own pattern! I love how it turned out:

So I didn't have a pattern for this and I didn't use another dress as a guide for the size. I bought a 0-3 month dress yesterday to use as a template for another dress I am working on and I think this dress is about 3-6 months. We shall see whne my cutie pie gets here in 4 months :)

I got 1/2 yard of pink polka dot fabric
3/4 yard of floral ( I still have enough fabric left of both to make another outfit with)

I cut two pieces for the front with a heart shape at the top and then two pieces for the back with long straps that will fold over to velcro on the front part.

Before you sew front and back pieces together, sew on one side of velcro:

Now face rigths sides together and sew about an 1/8 th inch seem around all edges except the bottom. You want to be able to flip it right side.
Turn right side out and iron. Now face velcro pieces down and sew edges together with a zig-zag stitch.
Sew buttons on right above velcro:
Take a long strip of the polka dot fabric that is 6 inches thick and fold over make a tube:
Sew with a long stitch to ruffle fabric:
Cut out two 7x18 rectangles and sew sides together with a zig zag stitch:
 Now attach your ruffle trim:
Sew on ric rac to cover stitch lines from ruffle trim:
Gather the top of the skirt by sewing a long stitch and pulling top stitch:
Fit to top and sew inside out on the edges. You are now finished!

I think I may add a giant flower to the front of it. What do you think??
