Pedestal table makeover

I have been MIA this week a bit. Sorry about that. I have had horrible allergies and have not wanted to do much. Feeling so much better today. Thanks for asking! I have also been working on my One Month to Win it project. I can't tell you what it is either. Darn! It's part of the rules. Annonymous voting. I am pretty confident you will all LOVE it though. Voting starts next week. I will keep you all informed, of course. Also, be sure to check me out at the DIY Showoff today. My bathroom is being featured. Yay!

Alrighty then! On with the post, shall we? I bought this table for a whole $20 dollars at Goodwill. It was actually a lot more work than I hoped it to be, BUT I have it sold already and she isn't even done drying. Awesomeness!

I know, I know, you are SUPER jealous of its orange oakey fabulousness right here. You're asking, Why would you every want to change a thing about it?! Well sorry to disappoint, but I did.

 I sanded down the top. I find that just sanding off the old finish it a lot easier than stripping it. That's just how I roll. To each their own.
I completely sanded off the top stain and ligthly sanded the bottom. You will lose feeling in your arms and you will have a garage full of saw dust. It's going to happen people. For the sake of change, it's worth it!
 I stained the top my favorite Miniwax Dark Walnut. The bottom is a cream color I found in the Oops paint at Lowes. It was a dollar. Oh yes! This is how professionals dry their furniture, on paper towels. All the cool kids are doing it, so you should too. Just saying...
 A post wouldn't be complete without this little guy posing with my project.
 So I distressed by sanding down the edges and applying a glaze with the dark walnut in it. I then applied some finishing wax in natural and polyed the top. She is done. Yay!



I actually ended up having to restrip the top! So annoying! The stain dried all funky, so I just refinished it.......again.This has never happened to me before and hopefully never happens again. That's why it was more work than I intended, but at least she's going to a good home :)

    Oh my goodness, it's the Buccees beaver! How adorable. I just moved to Lake Jackson (the Buccees hometown) and discovered this amazing gas station. 20lbs of ice for a buck?? Heck yes!

    Is that REALLY how the pro's dry their furniture? Darn, now I feel so unequipped! Hahaha, hey, our garages could be twins-mine looks like we just had a sand storm. And yea, sanding is so much better than stripping (in my opinion), although I think sanding makes me use more cuss words in the process, YIKES! This table turned out so beautiful (and worth the arm pain), I know the new owner will LOVE it as much as we all do!

    Too funny! I redid this same exact table this summer. I opted to mix in a touch of ebony stain on the top and painted the base blue and glazed. LOVE IT!

    I have a question, I just bought the exact same table and I want to glaze it as well... I am painting the top dark walnut by minwax and the bottom with honeymilk by valspar (which is latex)... I am confused on the glaze... isn't the glaze oil-based and will effect the latex underneath. thank you so much

    Amy, you are a no reply blogger so I couldn't respond directly. Hope you read this!

    Sorry this took so long! I haven't been blogging as much lately. I use a clear glaze and mix in a small amount of the wood stain I used to stain the top. The stain is oil based, but my glaze isn't. I use such a small amount of the stain that it hasnt affected the integrity of anything as of yet. Hope that helps!!
